In conducting my elephant research, I somehow came across the fact that sloths come down from the trees just once a week to poo. I found this fascinating and felt compelled to learn more. Because sloths move so slowly, algae is able to grow in their fur, and this gives them a greenish hue. They are built to be in the trees: a dead sloth will often maintain its grip and simply hang there. Sloths grow to 1.5-2.5 feet in length (I thought they were bigger), but the their ancient relative, the giant ground sloth, grew to the size of an elephant.
